Candidates getting passed on for not being the right culture fit is… rough
Culture fit can mean a bunch of different things, and there’s a lot that should go into this if you’re going to be hiring or turning folks down based on it.
When you say culture fit, is this something your organization has defined? Do you have questions/ prompts to talk through in an interview? Do you have a way to score it?
Or are you winging it and basing the decision on feel?
If it’s the ladder. Then is it culture, or did you just not vibe with the person?
I get why someone might pass on a candidate they didn’t like. You are going to be spending a ton of time around them after all. But let’s call it what it is.
The problem with hiring based on likeability is the chances of hiring people who are like you goes way up.
And do you need a copy of you around the office or someone who can bring a different set of ideas?
A lot of this could be solved with an interview scoring system and pre-determined questions. Would cut back on hiring bias a whole heck of a lot.
